Stray dog ends up as K9 unit.

Last night I took a call asking me if I could find a place to provide shelter to a young, energetic black German Shepherd. After making several calls I couldn't find any place, other than our garage. So the dog was brought to our house by the person that found it in 8 degree weather. The dog has a beautiful black sheen and was very attentive. After a few minutes we introduce him to the garage where he found a scrap carpet, which he tears shreds for 30 minutes. (I even dropped boxes next to the dog in an attempt to distract it as it concentrated. It didn't even consider the commotion.) The police were called several times but the same response was given, that they don't deal with stray dogs at night.
In the morning when it was time to take the dog out, Jay was dragged down the street until he pulled the dog back and gave the command heel. It was very obedient when told to heel and there was evidence that it was very well trained. MC called the police again just to let them know we had this dog, left our name and number just in case. Within the hour another officer called and said, 'I think you have my dog.' MC said, 'I think I do.' So he came by to pickup Lenney the K9 Akron unit police dog. The officer had been searching all night, alerting several people to be on the lookout for the dog. He was very relieved to find his dog safe in our house. It turns out the dog was born in Holland, trained in Germany then brought to the United States for more training and was now serving in Akron. Lenney is valued at $11,000. (So we had an $11,000 dog sleeping in our garage on one of the coldest nights this year.)
Jay was disappointed because he wanted to keep if after finding out how well trained it was.
Will write more later...
